Caduswadoh: You are right about GM Hwang Kee's efforts in integrating Chinese elements into Tang Soo Do... It is for this reason that we (the TAC committee for the TSDMGK) have worked hard to continue what we believe was the intent of GM Hwang Kee. We have further evolved the integration of the Chinese elements in TSDMGK with our purpose being to develop a clear progression from hard style techniques to those that blend both the hard and soft elements to eventually those techniques that incorporate the completely soft elements....consequently the last form in our system is called "Mi Guk Kwon" (American Fist) it is actually (48 movement combined style Tai Chi)...it is named as such because of the closeness to the name of our style....Mi Guk Kwan...since it is the last form in our style and defines the end of the form system. Our form system therefore goes from the hard or Weh Ga Ryu style with such forms as Gicho, Pyong Ahns, Bassai, Naihanghis, Jinto, etc... to the hard soft blend or Chun Ga Ryu style with Chil Sungs, Yuk Rhos and Hwa Sun to the completely soft or Neh Ga Ryu Style with "Mi Guk Kwon"
Our weapons system follows the same progression
beginning with hard style (Weh Ga Ryu) weapons...dagger, bong and Korean Sword. Progressing next to hard soft blend (Chun Ga Ryu) with Chinese Broad Sword and Shaolin Long Spear. Finallly progressing to completely soft with 42 movement Yang Style Tai Chi Sword.
As you would guess our self defense philosophy and techniques follow the same format..
Hard...basic one step, elbow techniques, intermediate one steps
Hard soft blend...aiki-ju-jutsu type techniques...chokes, wrist locks, shoulder locks, arm bars, take downs and throws mixed with strikes.
Soft...multiple attack free-flowing aiki type defense
